Meeker Memorial Hospital understands that staying in one’s home as long as it is safe is an important aspect to quality of life. However, sometimes our homes may have hidden hazards, challenges and obstacles to our loved one’s safety, independence and well-being. Often the question may be asked, “Is my home safe?” or “How do I know if my loved one is safe to stay in their home?” Meeker Memorial Hospital’s caring and experienced team can answer these questions by helping to identify and remedy any potential hazards to keep your loved one safe. Meeker Memorial Hospital provides thorough assessments designed to optimize your loved one’s living environment so they can remain living in their home for as long as possible.
Meeker Memorial’s Home Safety Assessments include addressing your loved one’s physical (strength, balance and mobility), cognitive (what they are cognitively capable of doing and identifying appropriate level of care needed) and psychosocial health. We assess their ability to perform basic activities of daily living tasks (such as dressing, bathing and toileting), as well as more complex activities (such as meal preparation, medication management and handling finances). We also address their physical environment, making recommendations for appropriate equipment, adjustments or adaptations to make the home safer or increase the ease of completing everyday tasks.
Meeker Memorial Hospital’s comprehensive assessment will provide families with a plan for suggested interventions and/or actions and recommendations, to keep their loved one safe and in the most appropriate living environment with the overall goal to continue to enjoy good health and improve and maintain their quality of life.
