Wheel Chair Fitting

Meeker Memorial Hospital provides thorough wheelchair and seating evaluations for individuals that either have or need a wheelchair and would benefit from the expertise and recommendations of a therapist and assistive technology specialist to meet their mobility needs. This assessment could take place in our clinic, in your home, or in both locations to ensure the equipment will work in your living environment.

Wheelchair assessments through Meeker Memorial Hospital can help you choose a wheelchair that is safe, comfortable and the right fit for your special needs.  We address both an individual’s need for manual mobility and power mobility.  Our therapists at MMH work closely with equipment company representatives to ensure that patients receive the most appropriate mobility and seating equipment to best meet their needs at the present time, and to anticipate any future needs. Caregivers and family members are also encouraged to attend the assessment, as they can provide additional information about how the wheelchair fits into the user’s daily activities and environment.

Many new and current wheelchair users are at risk for developing pressure wounds when using a wheelchair. Meeker Memorial Hospital also offers a Pressure Mapping System that can assist in identifying any potential problem areas on an individual’s seating surface (or other area of the body that has contact with another surface) that could result in the development or the reoccurrence of a pressure ulcer. Pressure mapping is completed by our same team of trained therapists in assistive technology. Information gathered from pressure mapping, combined with the clinical judgment of the wheelchair assessment team, is then used to make the most appropriate recommendations for an individual’s wheelchair, seating and positioning needs.
